This pamphlet contains two essays, both concerning Abraham Lincoln and his personal views on religion. The essay by Fitzgerrell focuses on building an argument that Lincoln was a spiritualist by recounting several personal events and spiritual and religious events that happened to him [the author]. There is also a report by Colonel S.P. Kase about a seance with Miss Nettie Colburn, medium, at the home of Mr. Laurie in Georgetown. The essay by Austin discusses Lincoln's religious views from several accounts, ranging from bibliographer's accounts to statements by those who knew him. There is an image of Fitzgerrell at the beginning.

The cover consists of the title, the date the address was given, and a justification of the address and printing are printed on the cover. A small insignia and printing statement are printed on the bottom of the cover. "Printed in the Congressional record Monday, February 18, 1824 [i.e. 1924] by request of Hon. Holm O. Bursum of New Mexico." Another address with the same title was delivered by the author the same day. The seal of the United States Government Printing Office is stamped upside down on the inside of the cover.
