Papers of Isaac Ross, planter, of Prospect Hill, Jefferson County, Mississippi. Correspondence, statement of accounts, promissory notes, receipts, memoranda, and other papers pertaining to settlement of Ross' estate, especially concerning the will's provision for manumission of Ross' enslaved persons choosing emigration to Liberia. Includes correspondence of Ross' grandson, Isaac Ross Wade, as administrator of the estate, with the American Colonization Society; records of Wade's business transactions with Person and Company, New Orleans, Louisiana, and other cotton merchants; and business papers of Wade's son B.H. Wade. Correspondents include J. Hewitt, Natchez, Mississippi, and George L. Yerger, Jackson, Mississippi.

In this letter, dated March 15, 1853, an unidentified person (possibly Isaac R. Wade) writes to Curry and Persons to identify an incorrect balance on an account and request that it, and the interest rate associated with a note be corrected. These letters between Isaac R. Wade and Claiborn County, Mississippi Sheriff and Tax Collector, R. M. Moore, pertain to the property taxes associated with the Isaac Ross estate. Moore informs Wade that the taxes amount to thirty-one dollars and sixty cents. A note on scrap paper states that taxes on the Isaac Ross estate in Jefferson county are one hundred, sixty-nine dollars and thirty-five cents.

Court Summons, November 10, 1848
This court summons calls Isaac R. Wade, Walter Wade, Levi C. Harris, Thomas L. Baily and Jane B. Ross to appear in the Southern District Chancery Court in Natchez to answer a bill of complaint against them. The complaint was brought by John Thomas Freeland and John Murcoch. The summons is dated November 10, 1848 and is signed by E. S. Russell, the court clerk.

Notification of Motion on Bond, October 1848
This handwritten court document notifies the defendants, Samuel Laughman, Isaac Wade, James Payne, and Thompson B Shaw in a case brought against them by the State of Mississippi on the judgement of two thousand six hundred and ninety-six dollars and fifty-two cents per annum damages. The document goes on to describe the case and the judgement that was brought to the Jefferson County Circuit Court during the October 1848 term.

Public Instrument of Protest, March 4, 1847
This set of documents include a Public Instrument of Protest filed and notarized on March 4, 1847, stating that payments had not been made on a note being held by Samuel Nicholson, Esquire, along with two copies of a promissory note stating that Isaac R. Wade would pay sums to James Brown by March 1, 1847. The second note is marked as paid by sale of Wade land on January 1, 1849.

This copy of the will was certified by Geneva E. Collins, Chancery Clerk, on November 22, 1968.
